From Wikipedia:

Libertarianism is a term used by a spectrum[1] of political philosophies which seek to promote individual liberty[2] and seek to minimize or even abolish the state.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The extent to which government may be necessary may be evaluated on ethical and/or economic grounds. "What it means to be a libertarian in a political sense is a contentious issue, especially among libertarians themselves. There is no single theory that can be reliably identified as the libertarian theory, and no single principle or set of principles on which all libertarians would agree."[10]

Since the late 19th century the term often has been used as a synonym for anarchism.[11][12] Some versions of libertarianism are synonymous with classical liberalism[13][14] or minarchism, especially in the United States.

The word libertarian is an antonym of authoritarian.[15]

libertarians in a nutshell believe they should have freedom to do anything they want, as long as it does not negatively affect other people. There are numerous problems with this ideology. Any idea like this taken to the extreme has negative consequences. A serious libertarian would say for example that a free market is the solution to any economic problem. The market will correct itself they would say. Problem with that oversimplified approach is, a natural tendancy in a capitalistic system is the tendancy twords monopoly. Just as in nature when a species becomes dominant and pushes out other species, monopolies form that become too large to fall. Not because they are producing quality good or services but because they become large enough to prevent fair competition. Thats when we need the government to step in. The government is the only protection we have from huge corporations. Its just not possible for Joe Shmoe to start up his own railroad company and compete with amtrack, and its not fair for amtrack to overcharge usage of their tracks just because they are the only ones that can build them. I was hesitant to call this website libertarian because  of all the negative connotations associated with them but I thought the domain was cool.

I have been for a long time very skeptical of Libertarians and libertarianism, it seems that for a long time it has been in need of a pruning of the branches of the ideology, yet today I find myself here posting and hoping for return posts. I am a ranch owner here in Butte county and I would like to contribute. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Great farmers market booth the other day btw.
